Dear LMLPs and LCPs,

I want to take this opportunity to update you about our efforts to revitalize KAMP.  After we sent out the letters from the KAMP Board and Cliff McQuillen of NAMP, we waited to hear your responses.  We are pleased to let you know that we had quite a number of people join, rejoin, or renew their KAMP and NAMP memberships.  We also had a number of people donate extra money to help pay the arrearage to our lobbyist, Ron Hein.  Thanks to your memberships and donations we have been able to pay off about two-thirds of that past due amount.   We are very appreciative and happy to be in a better financial position than we have been in for the last few years.  Your memberships do make a difference!  Many thanks to all of you.

We also had some members who came forward and offered to help KAMP in some tangible ways from large to small.  Thanks to all of you for donating your time and efforts.   We also welcome a new/old KAMP Board member in Betsy Mansel who is from Hutchinson and works at the Social Security office.  She was involved with KAMP in our early years but had not been involved for some time so we are thrilled to have her back with us.

If you have not joined or renewed for some reason, I would like to encourage you to do so as soon as possible since we are getting ready for our annual conference on April 28th  & 29th in Wichita and plan to have a great opportunity for people to earn up to 12 CEUs in the day and a half of the conference.  KAMP Members can attend for $136 for both days and that is a great deal.  The conference is also a wonderful opportunity to network with other LMLPs and LCPs.    KAMP will also hold a mini-conference in Salina in the fall where you can get 6 CEUs in one day.  We will post more information closer to the date which is scheduled for September 23rd.  Don’t miss out!  Come and join us for one or both conferences.

KAMP recently signed a new one-year contract with Hein Law Firm, Chartered.  This contract is for monitoring services only this year for which we pay a substantially reduced fee.  The Mental Health Credentialing Coalition did not feel that it was necessary to propose any legislation this year since we have accomplished most of the major goals that we initially set out to achieve.  KAMP does have concerns regarding recent proposals from the professional organizations of both the social workers and the licensed psychologists to form their own separate boards.  At this time, we are assured by both groups that this is not something that they expect to do in the near future but is part of their long range planning.  Therefore, KAMP needs to continue our readiness efforts to make sure our professional interests are a part of this process.  Monitoring of all legislative efforts undertaken by other groups is extremely important so that we do not get blindsided by legislation that could have a negative impact on our profession.

If you were unable to make a contribution or join earlier in the year, please don’t think we no longer need you as a member because we still do.  We need the strength of numbers especially when it comes to legislative efforts.  Legislators always want to know how many people are in our groups and they are much more likely to consider our proposals when we have a large percentage of eligible LMLPs and LCPs as members.

I am looking forward to a great year.  Hope to see you all in April in Wichita!
